Our family business has been servicing the Durham Region since 2000, with roots in the industry dating back to the fabulous 1970s. Jose began his journey in the industry, learning from the ground up, starting with edging lenses in the labs. He continued to grow his knowledge and education, becoming a licensed optician in 1973. His passion for eye care drove him to excel in various aspects of the industry, including fitting specialty contact lenses and mentoring new opticians.

The optical store initially started as a mom-and-pop team, consisting of Jose and his wife, Yvonne. Every client who walks into their store is treated as though they are family. In 2005, their daughter Amy joined the business, bringing her expertise in public relations, marketing, and advertising as our small family business continued to grow. Throughout the years, our optical family has expanded to include a talented staff of over nine members. Regardless of how much the store grows, it remains essential for Jose and Yvonne to maintain a family atmosphere, ensuring that everyone who visits receives the exceptional service they deserve.

Jose

Owner / Optician / Contact Lens Specialist

Jose received his Ophthalmic Dispenser certificate and became a certified Optician in 1973. In 1980 he graduated as a certified Contact Lens Specialist. Jose has worked with keratoconus patients with poor visual acuity and high prescription scripts that cannot be corrected with standard refraction. He is a PMMA hard contact lens fitter as well as a gas permeable lens fitter. This training enabled him to consult for other optical dispensaries with challenging contract lens fits all over Toronto and Durham Region. In addition to keratoconus contact lens patients, Jose also specializes in contact lens fittings for dry eyes, myopia management and semi scleral lenses. Jose was a Registrar for the Ontario Contact Lens Association for 4 years and is a mentor to newly licenced and student opticians. His journey in the optical industry started humbly, working in labs manufacturing and grinding lenses and making eyeglasses. He then advanced his education in eye health and optical needs, in all aspect in the industry. Jose is an active member of the Ontario Optician Association and the Canadian Optician Association.

Dr. Carmen Ou

Optometrist

Dr. Carmen Ou received both her Bachelor of Science degree and Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo. She has worked alongside numerous ophthalmologists such as cataract surgeons, retina specialists, cornea specialists and glaucoma specialists across Toronto and York region. Because of her diverse training, Dr. Ou is well-versed in current treatments for a wide range of diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and dry eye. She also has an interest for specialty lenses and is certified to fit contact lenses for myopia control, keratoconus and ocular surface diseases. Dr. Ou believes that awareness is the best way to prevent vision loss, so she prides herself on educating her patients and providing the tools and resources they need to take care of their health.

Dr. Ou is a member of the Ontario College of Optometrists, The Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.

The mother hen, she runs the show from behind the scenes.

With a passion for fashion, she is always staying ahead of the trends. Her knowledge of style and understanding every individual needs, from price point to comfortability, is always at top of mind when selecting new glasses.

Active member of the Ontario Optician Association and the Canadian Optician Association. Not Amy’s sister. She is adamant on clean hands, wash them before you touch your contact lenses.

Direct Billing

We are committed to providing convenient and hassle-free services for our patients. As part of this commitment, we offer direct billing to insurance companies. Direct billing simplifies the process of payment by allowing us to submit claims directly to your insurance provider on your behalf. We can bill insurances directly IF your plan allows assignment of benefits and electronic submission.

Currently, we can bill for the following companies: Sunlife, Green Shield, Manulife, Blue Cross, Cowan, Canada Life, Industrial Alliance, Manion and Wilkins, Johnson Inc, Desjardins, Claim Secure, Equitable Life, Chambers of Commerce, RWAM, and Grouphealth.
